English

Since the weather has been so cold I decided to make some classroom resources.

DIY PVC Phonics Phones

Excited to use these in my future classrooms!
The awesome thing about these is that they are easy to clean (soapy water in the sink or in the dishwasher) and easy to make!
Making independent reading fun and exciting while limiting noise in the classroom, allowing other students to concentrate on their own learning experiences.
There are plenty of websites online that help with the creation of these delights.
Here is one from a fellow blogger:

Basically you need (per phone):
2 PVC 90 degree elbows
PVC pipe
Pipe cutters
Washi tape (to make bright and colourful!)

How will I use these in the classroom?

  • Individual reading time
  • Independent reading after guided reading
  • Re-reading and editing their writing
  • Practising speech and public speaking

Writing Wall

As part of our reading rotations at Bluff we had the writing wall. This is where each student has a photo that has a collection of their stories from writing. This idea promotes the important concept in writing to write for an audience. The photos can be easily attached or pulled off the wall for the students to interact and read the displays. I update my writing lesson stories on this wall.
