Self expression

I think it is important for students to be able to have times that they can doodle and draw to express their likes and views. With my home room (2014) of year one and two students we create art. On one side of the picture we created a self portrait of us as 'artists' on the other side they created a drawing of what is their favourite thing to draw on a canvas.

Awesome activity to get to know your students and they might surprise them with the vocabulary they use!

Super Heroes 

One of my most successful art unit's I have taught so far was a super hero based unit. The class at the time were learning about super hero's through literacy. Previous to creating their art they had looked into aspects of super hero's such as logo's, colours and vocabulary. This unit involved art techniques such as scumbling and sgraffito. After creating their painted artwork, they then cut this up to create their own logo.
